Dependable, Proven, and STC'd!

"Our oil filter costs a lot less than
a new engine!"
These kits feature an accordion internal
filter medium of approximately 2000 square
inch area capable of stopping particles as
small as 25 microns.
The filter can be changed in a few minutes,
as easy as changing the filter on your pickup!
Bypass characteristics are very favorable,
full filtration occurs at normal operating
temperatures even during full throttle takeoffs.

The Sky Tractor spin on oil filter kit is
the original radial engine spin on filter
kit with more than a thousand kits in service
today.
The high capacity filter is capable of filtering
up to 30 gallons of oil per minute at 180
degrees F. operating temperature, which is
2.5 times the return oil flow capacity of
the R1340 engine.
Dependable _ Proven _ STC'd
Pratt & Whitney radials were originally
designed with inlet oil screens as the sole
means for preventing foreign material from
circulating through the engine oil system,
and these course screens were considered
adequate at the time. TBO's back then averaged
about 150 hours. Lubrication technology has
advanced quite a bit since then, but as far
as filtration is concerned, P&W users
are still in the 1920s.
Today's automotive engine is protected by
an oil filter. The comparative costs for
an automotive engine don't even come close
to the cost of a R985 or R1340 overhaul.
Consider also, that nowhere in your automotive
engine can you find a parallel to the blower
bearing in a P&W, which operates under
a .003” preload at 23,000 RPM. Also, the
breather system in modern automobiles is
sealed, whereas your airplane engine is open
to the elements.
Try this next time you change oil in your
Ag Cat, Thrush, T6/SNJ, Air Tractor, Weatherly
or Beaver. Clean the screen with solvent,
and then put a small amount of sand, metal
filings, or other small particles in the
screen. Hold the ends closed with your hands
and shake lightly over a piece of white paper.
You will find that everything under about
.016” of an inch goes right through the screen.
The average particle of sand is about .010”
of an inch, also carbon, steel, and particles
of aluminum from normal engine wear will
circulate freely through your engine.
The effect of such debris on valve guides,
bearings, and cylinder walls aren't hard
to imagine. After market filters previously
developed for radials have been the canister
type that are expensive, require non-readily
available elements, and cannot be easily
serviced.
Sky Tractor Supply's STC'd oil filter kit
features an accordion internal filter medium
of approximately 2172 square inch area capable
of stopping particles as small as 15 microns.
External dimensions are 12-inches in length
by 5-½ inches diameter. The filter can be
changed in a few minutes - as easy as changing
the filter on your pickup! Bypass characteristics
are very favorable, full filtration occurs
at normal operating temperatures even during
full throttle takeoffs.
Here's how the filter can pay for itself
in short order:
Obviously it can help prevent sudden failure
and extend your TBO.
Normally your oil simply becomes contaminated
long before it loses lubricity. By preventing
the contamination, you have the option of
increasing the period between oil changes
by a factor of two - and still have oil that's
in better shape. This alone can pay for the
filter in the course of one engine run, and
it makes life easier when you get busy.
If you should have an engine failure on a
filter equipped engine, your oil cooler,
tank, prop, and prop governor will be protected
from contamination - and the fact that the
engine is not force-feeding metal to itself
can have an effect on how long it continues
to produce usable power.
Replacement filters easily available.
